100 Wheelchairs Donated to 5 Villages in Sichuan Province, China

The Rotary Club of Shanghai donated 100 wheelchairs to five locations in impoverished Sichuan, where many people with mobility problems cannot afford medical care or equipment. The distribution of these brand-new wheelchairs was facilitated by Giving Hand, who went through the five locations to check that each recipient is happy with the equipment. With the help of local governments and charities, we managed to benefit a wide range of disabled people across the earthquake-struck zone, from young factory workers to old farmers.

Adidas(HK) has many sample or display shoes that are usually destroyed because they are not available in pairs. Giving Hand came up with the idea for donating these high quality shoes to people who are disabled and only able to wear one shoe. Adidas(Shanghai) donated 1000 T-shirts and jackets to NPI Shanghai to help local institutions develop their own projects.

Mars Candy in Hong Kong created a beautiful and fun candy holder. When the candy sales date expires it was commonplace for Mars to destroy these candy holders. These vibrant colored candy dispensers are wonderful toys for children. Giving Hand came up with the idea of disposing the expired candies, but keeping and delivering the toys to disabled children via Crossroad HK.

Staples' office products samples are not for sale and cannot be sent back to the United States. Rather than destroying these products, Staples has donated the product to NPI Shenzhen to support the development of local charities.

Warnaco's products are sold under several highly recognized brand names such as: Calvin Klein, Speedo, Chaps, Warner's and Olga. They donated over 1,000 items of clothing to Crossroad HK to help people in need.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP is a international law firm located in Beijing, which donated 16 used computers to Green Computer Poject of China Association of Poverty Alleviation & Development to support education in poor areas.

1. Unimax donated at least 6,000 new blankets to Ge Sang Hua Education Organization, which distributed the blankets to help children and poor families living in the aftermath of the 2010 Yu Shu earthquake.
2. IFC called on their staff to donate warm clothing, tents and sleeping bags. They collected over 100 sweaters, 40 sleeping bags and 11 tents for people in Yu Shu.
3. IDS Group is donated all of their logistics fees to support earthquake relief.
