Rotary Club of Shanghai – Wheelchair

100 Wheelchairs Donated to 5 Villages in Sichuan Province, China

 For this project, Giving Hand staff members Yu Ling and Floris travelled throughout Sichuan , stopping at the aforementioned five locations to monitor the progress of wheelchair distribution. Often, there would be ceremonies co-organized with the local government for family members to collect the wheelchairs for their loved ones. Throughout the event, our staff members find inspiring tales of familial love and hope amidst loss.  Many disabled people, who were totally invalided before the wheelchair arrived, expressed much gratitude towards the giving charities. Now, with the wheelchairs, they can sit outside, do household chores, shop, and lead a more independent existence.  One woman was so grateful she broke down in tears, and the mother of another recipient was so thankful she prepared a meal of potatoes and vegetables for our staff members.

This is a worthwhile and significant project, and one we could not have done without the assistance of Heifer International, Hua Qiao Foundation and Handicap International , and of course the donator, the Rotary Club of Shanghai!
